This is a black and white sculpture with 4 views. It was done around 3 years ago. It's obvious I was interested in drawing. Can't remember where my head was at about the 'accordian' structure.  It's approximately 22"  tall by 18" wide, with the depth around 8".

Showing 2 photos of this tile because one has more glare .  This is an older tile, glued on board, and I like it.

The 3 tiles today have some age to them. It was when I first started to produce them. I made ceramic frames for them and all was glued to a board. The public didn't like the weight of it. I didn't like educating the public to how much weight a wall will take. Thus, I eliminated the  framing tiles and produced only the main subject tile. Note that I did attempt to tone down the 'white' grout by staining it to compliment the tile color.

This piece of clay is about drawing on/ in clay. At the time, I was using gouged lines in other pieces, thus in my mind, I thought that drawing should be done this way. The lines were glazed and so was the surrounding clay. Even though it has a tight control to the line, there's something lyrical or Oriental about it in my mind. It's about 14 inches tall. The black glaze 'spits' ( spots on white ). I don't particularly like this piece except for what it taught me.... and that makes it worthy. I've since learned other ways to draw on/ in clay.

Today's clay piece was done several years ago. I hesitate to call it a tile because it is about 16' x 18' and one piece of clay.  It is based on a watercolor that I did years ago, in the mid 70's  I think. I'm surprised that it hasn't gotten broken. If I knew where the watercolor was, I would have provided an image of it.

The tile on this posting is about 16" x 18" which is a good size piece of clay.  I fired it upright in the kiln out of necessity. There is a predominant color pink used on it. The reason for this is that I had a LOT of pink glaze left over from an architectural job, where I made pink pillow tiles to cover a whole room ( walls were 10' x 16' ).... that includes covering the ceiling. Sorry, no 'room' photo yet. I will also repeat a sketch I did, which is one of which I used to make the tile. I also should say that I made several attempts at this combination. I made 2 trays, a large vessel and then this, all using predominantly the same design, before I was somewhat satisfied.

Two views on one sculpture today.  I had an instructor, who ( in my words of interpretation ) said that you could use an image for a life time and still be able to make new creations from it.

Just one sculpture, but 3 views. My interest in line, plane and volume is the construction focus.

This posting will have 3 'clay tablets'. They are cruder than some of the previous 'tablets'. These were the originals that I started working from. Then I decided to cut corners and make the tablets rectangles.

Tonight I'm showing 3 'clay tablets'.  One of them, I know I like. The other 2 I'm looking at. I'm pondering dichotomy.

This snow is tiring me both mentally and physically. So, I'll show some vegetation and think of garden days.  The first photo is a squash leaf.  I rolled clay out and took a squash leaf and pressed it on the clay. It's about 14 or 16" tall. The next photo is a sketch of plants that I used in making several clay pieces. Guess I'm too lazy to draw in all the leaves and flowers. The next photo is another plant sketch. Generally, when I draw like this, I'm forcing discipline upon myself. Wonder what I did wrong.

The small sketches were 'MY' clouds and I had them in mind for paintings that never happened. The small watercolor is about the sun, which I wish we would have had today, instead of SNOW.

The first sketch is for a clay box I made. You can see the dots where I decided to separate the sides. I made it with low fire clay and eventually allowed the weather to take ( destroy ) it. The next sketch looks like some 'profound' thing I had to write down. The flowers are to offset the anticipation of the snow we are supposed to get. GGRRRRRRRR....

I'll try to post a couple of tiles with the respective drawing that preceeded each.  I think both tiles were done in 2007.  The tiles are about 15" high.

Two contour drawings done at a friend's home in 2008 are first. Next, a small watercolor ( 6" x 9" ) done in the 80s.

'Evil Intentions' is the name I put on a block print I did in 1966. I don't remember why.  The small ( 6" x 9" ) watercolor of a female must have been done in the 70s. I'm showing 2 photos of a recent sculpture. One photo was taken when it was bisque fired. The other photo is after a clear satin glaze firing. I was working with the idea of ....'line - plane - volume'.  I guess I forgot about 'plane'... except for the base.  I don't have a photo of this sculpture before I carved lines on it. It had a totally different 'feel' then.

Embraced by a bushy wormwood plant, is the bust that I call Sawyer. Sawyer has a story to long to tell in this format. Next is a painting I did of a plate that I really liked. I forget the pattern name but it was popular. While I liked the plate, the painting tends toward illustration. That is frustrating for me.  The tile is a 4 inch abstract head. I never made a 'positive' for this tile. I had a mold of a plain 4" tile. I used various gouging tools to dig the design out of the mold. It was a spontaneous type of creation. I've felt satisfied with this little tile, particualrly in the blue glaze.

OK.  Containers it is. All the containers are fired high enough to be used inside or outside. The head vase is made of red clay. Sorry for the lighting on it's photos. I'm showing 3 views of it. The blue and cream colored bowl ( bird ) can either hang on the wall or set on a table. The black and white head bowl is sold.
