Here's another green tile with plant pressings on the clay. It's a 4 inch tile.

It's been awhile. Let's start December with this small, crude evergreen tiles. They are made by stamping the image into the clay. They may be a tad out of focus also..... sorry.

This is a short series of photos of sketches that I did on business cards. They are older ideas, some of which I recycle. These were all applied to tile designs.

Experimental tile.  Drawn with hot glue on a masonite board. When cured, I pressed it into clay. The glaze lines are a visual illusion; they are actually recessed into the clay. I squirted the glaze into the rivlets with a syringe.

Here's another earlier playful tile that helped me toward a different direction with the tiles I make.

Sunday, October 30, 2011

This tile is approx. 10" x 12" and free form. It is an older tile and somewhat of an encouragement for me to go in the direction I have gone with some of my more recent tiles.  Sorry for the lapse of time in posting work. Life 'things' are happening and I suppose there will be more lapses.

Sorry for the lapse of time. Been really busy with things other than art. I miss it !!!

I think the top picture was photographed in the shade and the bottom was done in the sun. The tile is approx. 9" x 9" / has slip, underglaze and glaze on it. Fired to ^6.  I think this was another attempt at a tile that was cracked in a previous firing.

The top tile was photographed in the shade and the bottom picture was in the sun. The tile is approx 9" x 10"  with slips, underglazes and glaze. ^6 firing

This tile is approx. 9" x 10" - glaze and underglaze - ^6   /  One of the pics was taken in sunlight and the other in the shade and I can't tell you which is which.

Ceramic tile approx 9" sq. - the top pic is taken in the shade and the bottom pic in the sun.  There are slips and glaze atop the clay body / all are to ^6.

Tuesday, September 27, 2011

This tile has irregular sides but is approx 8" sq. ^6 glaze and clay  The top photo was in the shade and the bottom photo was in the sun. This would fit into the 'primitive' category of my 'dichotomy of styles' and of course the other style would be 'the other'.

New tiles.  It's the same tile.Top shot was done in the shade and the bottom shot was in the sun. This is approx. 10" sq. / clay slips and glaze ^6.

More small sketches/ gel pen.  This type of drawing was my earliest art lesson. As a child ( pre school ) I remember my mother drawing animals for me without lifting her pencil. Of course I'm not doing that totally in these sketches but it happens to some extent.

More sketches. The top 2 are with gel pen the 3rd one is with pencil.
